Tree Planting
Award-winning woodlands for climate and community
Transformative landscape-scale tree planting projects
Our nature-first approach creates healthy habitats and restores natural balance. We plant a mixture of native, broadleaf trees to create thriving habitats for wildlife. We plant trees for businesses and individuals who want to make a positive impact on our planet.
Tree Planting
Connecting people and nature
Our tree planting and nature restoration projects benefit people and the planet
Our team collaborate with a range local communities and organisations. Providing inclusive outdoor access and education.
Our sites provide an outdoor classroom for all ages, ranging from primary school students to those involved in academic research. From Stirling University student group planting wildflowers at Dumyat to the Mull Wildlife Group learning about Atlantic rainforests at Glenaros, our team of field-based experts are passionate about engaging with the community and knowledge-sharing. We are making efforts to enhance accessibility at our sites. Our ultimate goal is to create opportunities for citizen science, wildlife monitoring and transform our land into an inclusive outdoor classroom for a wide range of individuals.
Nature Restoration
Vital nature restoration projects making a difference
We are dedicated to the conservation and enhancement of our natural landscapes
The rate at which we are losing nature today is alarming, the UK is left with only half of its natural biodiversity, ranking it among the bottom 10% of countries worldwide. To address this issue, the Future Forest Company are actively managing vital nature restoration projects across twelve unique sites in the UK.
We are dedicated to the protection of ancient woodlands, the cultivation of wildflower meadows, and the restoration of wetlands, actively contributing to the health and longevity of our diverse ecosystems.
Nature Restoration
Protecting endangered species
Our sites provide a vital food source, a safe place for nesting, breeding, hunting and shelter for wildlife. We are managing woodland habitats for red squirrels, as well as native wood edges for Black grouse, restoring habitats for farmland birds like Lapwing, and Curlew. Our Wetland restoration provides a safe habitat for the Great Crested Newt to thrive.
In 2023, we witnessed the remarkable return of a once locally-extinct butterfly after a 100 year absence. Following our nature restoration at Dumyat where we planted Common rock-rose, the only plant eaten by Northern Brown Argus caterpillars. Our team and volunteers from Butterfly Conservation conducted a series of searches on the hillside at the award-winning Dumyat Estate in Blairlogie, discovering a few small colonies of the butterfly on the steep hills.
Nature Restoration
Restoring wildflower meadows
The preservation of wildflower meadows is crucial for the survival of essential pollinator insects such as bees. Unfortunately, the UK has witnessed a staggering decline of 97% in wildflower meadows since the 1930s. Our aim is to establish and revive these meadows by utilising native wildflower seeds, while avoiding the use of peat.
Nature Restoration
Growing together to cultivate wildflower flower meadows
The Student Energy Group sponsor 1,000 square metres of wildflower meadow restoration
Our partnership with The Student Energy Group was further strengthened in 2023. A significant milestone was reached in July when they sponsored the restoration of 1,000 square meters of wildflower meadow, helping nature thrive and supporting pollinators. This initiative perfectly complements their existing tree sponsorship, where they plant a sapling for each of their clients in our growing forests. We greatly appreciate their shared dedication to incorporating sustainability into their daily operations.
Nature Restoration
Thought leadership shaping the environmental industry
Our experts are paving the way in the environmental industry
Peatland Manager, Matt Cook recently spoke at the Power To The Peatlands conference in Antwerp, where he discussed the integration of public and private finance in peatland restoration in Scotland.
We hosted the Scottish Government and other public sector organisations to discuss market opportunities and address challenges related to natural capital.
‘We are grateful to the Future Forest Company team for making the time to host our visit and for their honest and informative reflections on working in Scotland and on the role the public sector can play in supporting businesses to deliver our high-integrity and values-led vision for the natural capital market.’
- Ross Johnston, Head of Natural Capital Policy and Valuation
Peatland Restoration
Restoring peatlands for a greener future
Our team is committed to the conservation of wetlands, restoring peatland, and the development of ponds.
Wetlands are essential for carbon absorption and storage, as well as providing a diverse habitat for various species and rare plants. By restoring peatland and creating new ponds, we are actively establishing sanctuaries that are abundant in wildlife and biodiversity. The restoration and protection of peatland are crucial in our efforts to combat climate change. We offer businesses certified UK Peatland Carbon Code units that are of high quality, traceable and legally recognised.
We restore peatland on our own sites and we also work with landowners to restore peatland on their properties to unlock the economic potential of their land.
Peatland Restoration
Unleashing the power of peatlands
Swarthghyll Peatland Restoration Project in the Yorkshire Dales
Situated in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales, our inaugural peatland restoration project has been officially recognised by The Peatland Code, the certification standard in the UK. By restoring 57.9 hectares of peatland, this project will result in a reduction of 9,499 tCO2e of emissions over the course of the project's century-long lifespan.
Peatland Restoration at The Glenatos Estate, Isle of Mull
At Glenaros, our latest peatland restoration initiative will lead to a reduction of 3,213 tCO2e over the course of a 100-year project.

Ancient Woodland Protection
Protecting Scotland’s rainforest and ancient woodland habitat
Scotland's rainforests are incredibly important for wildlife and are just as diverse as tropical rainforests. These ancient woodlands have thrived for centuries, forming intricate ecosystems that support a wide range of plant and animal species, including some that are rare. At Glenaros, we are fortunate to have extensive rainforest areas, particularly the unique Atlantic Hazelwood. However, these areas have suffered from overgrazing and lack of new growth, making it crucial for us to take action and ensure that future generations can appreciate and benefit from these remarkable habitats.
Ancient Woodland Protection
Preserving the Atlantic Hazelwood and its rare lichen at the Glenaros Estate
The Atlantic Hazel woodlands at the Glenaros Estate are of global importance because of their diverse range of lichens, bryophytes, and fungi. Lichens, which are a combination of fungi and algae, can be found in the Atlantic Hazel stands, including some exceptionally rare species. These rare lichens rely on ancient woodland habitats for their survival. Not only do lichens play a crucial ecological role, but they also serve as a source of food, shelter, and nesting material for various wildlife species.

Woodland Carbon
Why invest in carbon projects?
Carbon projects that benefit your business and the environment
It is important to understand that carbon offsetting is not a magical solution to climate change. However, investing in carbon projects can be beneficial for your business to tackle unavoidable carbon emissions after reducing emissions in other areas. Additionally, investing in carbon units can provide crucial funding for vital nature restoration projects. .
Our PIUs are thoroughly validated, ensuring they are audited, traceable, and authentic. We collaborate closely with the Woodland Carbon Code and Peatland Carbon Code to certify the carbon stored from our projects.
Agroforestry
Agroforestry: A win-win solution for nature, climate, and rural communities
Agroforestry benefits, nature, climate and rural communities. Our holistic land management approach means that we consider the whole ecosystem of a site, from the soil to the surrounding community. Our team of experts adopt agroforestry methods on several of our woodland sites. Agroforestry integrates trees, crops and animals to create exceptionally productive and resilient ecosystems.
Agroforestry
Benefits of agroforestry in reducing leakage
Agroforestry delivers a multitude of benefits both for people, the farm and for nature. An integrated agroforestry system can be designed to avoid potential "leakage" a trade-off that occurs between modern farming and forestry. Leakage occurs when efforts to reduce emissions in one place simply shift emissions to another location or sector where they remain uncontrolled or uncounted. Our holistic landmanagement approach allows us to mitigate leakage by integrating carbon removal activities such as woodland creation with small-scale farming.

Mangalitza pigs at Brodoclea Woodland Farm
At Brodoclea Woodland Farm we manage the Woolly Pig Company, a small scale organic farming enterprise, the farming activities enhance the woodland rather than the other way round. Our woodland and farm activities are entirely integrated. To support our ongoing work at Brodoclea, we retail 60-80 Mangalitza pigs a year which are then sold directly to customers through our online shop The Woolly Pig Company. The meat from the breed is highly sought-after as it is a healthy and nutrient-rich product due to the environment it was raised in.

Highland Cows at the Glenaros Estate
The Glenaros Estate is home to highland cattle, there are records of Highland cows at Glenaros dating back to the early 1800's. These majestic creatures contribute significantly to the ecosystem by recycling nutrients through grazing and dung, resulting in a richer plant diversity and more intricate vegetation. The exceptional characteristics of the pure Highland cow make it an ideal candidate for conservation grazing initiatives.
